I got the Amazon Kindle 2 the first day it came out, having pre-ordered a month in advance. I always lusted over the first Kindle, but for some reason I found the shape so hideous and unnatural that I thought I would obsess over it. I’m actually glad I waited, as the Kindle 2 is just about perfect for what I need. I love to read, I used to read all the time. Then I was always on the move, trying to pack light, so books being a tad bulky were one of the items that got pulled from the packing list. Well, the Kindle2 solves all those problems. It is thin, light, holds a ton of books, and I seem to carry it almost everywhere I go. I’m also getting into different genre then I ever have prior to getting the Kindle2, which has really broadened the scope of what I read. I never strayed too far from my reading comfort zone before, always sticking with Stephen King, Anne Rice, Dean Koontz, and similar types of reads. Now I’m all over the map; historical reading, lots of non-fiction, hell I even read The Host and am working on Twilight. I really enjoyed The Host, definitely a different spin on the whole Invasion of the Body Snatchers theme.

Does the Kindle2 have some issues?? Sure, every electronic piece of equipment I have ever owned has never been perfect. Sometimes on pages with no text it has a very minor ghost image from the previous page. I would consider that the worse of the minor issues with it, the rest I find to be personality based issues and not performance issues. It is pretty expensive, especially when you factor in that it basically is just a conduit to read books. With that said, knowing what I know now I would pay twice as much for it if that was what it would take to reclaim my love of reading.

Yep, I have no idea what the heck I’m going to write about, so I guess I’m just going to start off writing about whatever comes to mind. I’ve always loved to write, ever since I was a kid, so I made a New Years resolution to go ahead and start writing again full time. About what is the biggest question I pose to myself all the time. As far as New Years resolutions go, I’m doing pretty good right now with one of my major resolutions, which was to quit smoking. I have been cig and nicotine free for the year of 2010, and this is coming from a 20 plus year run of full time smoking. Needless to say I’m proud of myself, and pat myself on the back many times a day. OK, well this post will be short, I’m waiting on a helicopter ride out of the small FOB I’m currently stuck on in Iraq, so more to follow in the next couple of days.
